The Operating System for Tax-Strategic Turo Hosts.
An operating system is not a dashboard. It is where your choices become a routine you can repeat. Fleconomy exists because a 22-car Turo fleet outgrew its spreadsheets. We needed something that would last past the next car.
Most Turo hosts don't need software. They need a guest, a clean car and a tank of gas. The math works at one or two cars, because the fleet fits in your head. By the fifth car, it no longer fits in anyone's head. Then you either hire someone or build a system.
What an operating system actually is
People use "operating system" loosely. Here, it means three things that work together:
- A single source of truth — every vehicle, every trip, every dollar, in one place that nobody disagrees with.
- A routine you repeat — the same five steps to add a car, the same close each month, the same export at year end.
- A tax position you can defend — depreciation, material participation, business-use percentages and mileage. All of it comes from real data and is ready to hand to a CPA with no rework.
Take any of those three away and you do not have an operating system. You have a tool with a login.
Why we built it
Fleconomy is not a general app that switched to Turo. It started as the tool we used to run our own 22-car fleet. The first version was a spreadsheet. The second was three spreadsheets and a folder of receipts. The third was when we saw the choice. We would either build a real system, or get worse at the business as we grew.
A system costs little. Not having one costs a lot, but you can't see it until tax season.
What we kept from the spreadsheet days is the discipline. What is new is who keeps it. Now the system enforces it, so the host doesn't have to remember.
What the operating system covers
- Fleet roster — each car, with its status, location, mileage and business-use percentage.
- Trip ingestion — Turo CSV in, allocated trips out.
- P&L per vehicle — revenue, expenses, depreciation, net.
- Maintenance ledger — planned service, repair history and claim records.
- Tax position — Section 168(k) bonus depreciation worksheets, material participation log, 7-day average rental tracker.
- Year-end exports — CPA-ready package in one click.
What it deliberately does not do
Fleconomy is not a marketplace, not a Turo competitor and not a CPA. It does not file your taxes for you. It does not deal with your insurance. It does not replace your judgment. It puts the facts in front of you. You still run the business. The system makes you faster. It does not make you optional.
Who it is for
Two profiles get the most value:
- High-income W-2 earners who use Turo as part of a tax plan. For them, a deduction that holds up matters more than being booked five percent more.
- Hosts with more than one car (usually 2+, often growing toward 10+), whose fleet no longer fits in spreadsheets.
If you have one car as a hobby, you do not need this yet. If either of the two above sounds like you, you needed this last year.
